Sonya

Abandoned with no opportunities

When we met Sonya for the first time, she was five years old, had been abandoned by her mother, rendered deaf from meningitis and was unable to walk. She spent her days in a hut, where she was locked up day and night by the village community. Sonya had nobody to provide her with a dignified life, let alone a loving home. We wanted to give her the affection she needed and rescue her out of her undignified situation. She desperately needed help and every day was of the essence. Thanks to the support from her sponsor, we were able to find her a place in one of our partner homes. There, she is not only getting the care she needs but also receiving regular physical therapy. Sonya has already made great strides. Thanks to her physical therapy, she is once again able to walk on her own. We are helping her move toward finally living a fulfilling life.
